What Every Young (and Grown-Up) Artist Needs to Hear
What Every Young (and Grown-Up) Artist Needs to Hear

Happy Sunday from all of us at Blair Center!
There are a few things every artist needs to hear from time to time. Simple reminders that can make a big difference when you're feeling unsure, stuck, or just need a little encouragement.
So here they are—from our studio to your heart:
You don’t need permission to make art.
You don’t need fancy supplies, a degree, or the perfect setup to be an artist. If you feel the urge to create, that’s enough. Start with what you have. Make something just for the joy of it.
Every great piece begins with a rough idea.
It’s okay if things get messy or don’t turn out how you imagined. That’s part of the process. Mistakes are where learning lives—and often where the most exciting discoveries happen.
Your art doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
There’s no “right” way to make art. Your voice, your perspective, your style—that’s what makes your work special. So don’t be afraid to do it your way.
Take your time. There’s no rush.
Whether you’re painting once a week or every day, the time you spend creating matters. Go at your own pace. Every little step adds up more than you think.
If you’re making art, you’re an artist.
It really is that simple. Age, experience, and perfection don’t define it—doing it does. You belong in the world of art, just as you are.
At Blair Center, we’re proud to support artists at every age and stage. Whether it’s your child’s first class or your own return to the easel after years away, we’re here to encourage you, cheer you on, and give you a place to grow.
So go ahead—create something today. Even something small. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
