What does it mean to feel empowered as an artist? Students will explore the art and work of the artist Basquiat through books and media. We will read the book The Radiant Child by Javaka Steptoe for inspiration.. Students will learn about his life and his techniques, as well as learn how to draw animals using observational drawing techniques to create mixed media works on cardboard and paper. Media we will use will include drawing pencils, tempera painting, oil pastels, and collage materials.
